dun u think its kinda stupid to compare a car to a suv..range rover can never beat any of these cars..altezza,celica,or carina gt..range rover is a fine piece of machinery..its da best offroader (its mainly used for *bling bling*)...but its stupid to even think to race a car with an suv..rover cannot make da curves like any of da following cars, cars are lot quicker and can take better turns and more torque(hp sells car, torque wins races)... ctg guy ders two type of alteza in da market here ,dual vvti and da beams 2000..most of da altezzas here are beams2000 , dual vvti is alot quicker,, and yes carina gt is quite a fast car..

yes, it is unfair to compare cars and SUV's solely in terms of acceleration off the line. SUV's are generally much heavier (due to the 4wd system and differentials, luxury equipment, etc.), their engines are tuned for high torque at low rpm (to take them out of sticky mud and for greater towing capacity) and not for high horsepower. Even on a track or round corners SUV's are slower because of the height of the vehicle which means a high centre of gravity leading to body roll which means lots of transfer of weight between inside and outside wheels. So, the more weight transfer the less the grip on the tyres leading to slower times around corners. Again, the height affects acceleration by creating more drag or wind resistance.
However, the tables are turned when a car is racing an SUV up a hill, where the greater torque of the SUV will work in its favour. Sorry for the physics lesson !
BTW, according to AUTOCAR magazine (tested 09 Apr 03) it takes 4.8 secs for an EVO 8 to accelerate 0-60 mph (96 km/h). According to CAR AND DRIVER magazine (tested Feb 05), it takes the supposedly faster EVO 8 MR edition, also 4.8 sec to reach 60 mph.
