Anyway, I was speaking with some of my fathers friends who are from a wide range of group, some are secular, some are religious, some support AL, some BNP, Jamaat, some "neutral" etc but they all believe that an external power had something to do with these attacks.

I believe since the SAARC summit is just a few months away India could be trying to derail it. You ask WHY?

* Did you know India cancelled the SAARC summit before.
* The SAARC summit has already been cancelled two times because of the Asian tsunami and the volatile political situation in Bangladesh and Nepal because India complained. (All members in SAARC have a "veto" power.)
* China will join SAARC soon. That will give Bangladesh and Pakistan a major political and strategic boost. Nations such as Nepal, Sri Lanka also support China.
* India stands most to loose in this because if China joins this meeting in the future India will loose it's clout.

But all of you say, what is bdmilitary talking about? "The Police found pamphlets of a banned extremist group all over the bombing sites!"

My answer to that is very imple, do you really belive any Islamic group in Bangladesh is so stupid enough to bomb the whole country to get their message through to the people to establish an Islamic state?

I believe Muslims are smarter than that. It is not part of our religion or social culture to preach or practise violence or terrorism. Islam was not propogated through violence and force. Islam spread with the message of peace, equality and dignity of the messengers. Please refer to the Islamic history.

From the obvious clues this act of terrorism was commited by Indian intelligence wing (RAW). They are known to encourage secterian violence in Pakistan and help Balochistani rebels. They also help the Tamil Tiger (LTTE) rebels in Sri Lanka and aided the anti-Bangladesh Shanti Bahini and various violent anti-Bangladesh groups in the past to destablise the region.

Even if the government says that it has found clues or solved the crime I will stick to my claims because the government will not reveal the truth of the matter fearing further attacks from India.

Read the following:

Indian media tirade

By
Aug 20, 2005, 11:37

THE media plays a major role in upholding international norms and projecting national achievements. They are required to keep abreast of real-life situation in different countries on normative and practical fathoms. The media have to review prevailing situations and prepare reports and make comments with objectivity. Over the years, incidents of violence against human beings plus destruction of commercial and industrial complexes by anti-social elements have increased. The nine-eleven incident haunted the government and the people of the United States of America. Likewise, the invasion of Iraq by American and British troops has brought the oil-rich country to the brink of destruction.

The media as well as the official quarters in neighbouring India have once again started a tirade against Bangladesh. Reports on the bomb-incidents in Bangladesh on August 17 have been projected by some Indian media as a reflection of the failure of the government of Bangladesh. The Times News Network, an allied agency of the "Times of India," a major English daily, is among those involved in this. The same newspaper is reported to have unfortunately asserted that apart from Sri Lanka, neighbouring states of India are "failed states".

It further tried to discover that Bangladesh is sinking into Islamic fundamentalism. The government in office and relevant departments have either encouraged the elements concerned or failed to control the activities of such organisations against neighbouring countries. As a result, a network of so-called organisations has been created by some leaders and fundamentalist organisations. The blasts of crude bombs of August 17 in sixty-three cities is quite baffling. The media in India, and the Defence Minister, as well as the Chief Minister of the state of West Bengal illogically expressed their concern and literally blamed the official agencies in Bangladesh for their so-called failure to contain it.

It is worth mentioning that the Indian government and the major media of the big neighbour have for years tried to tarnish the image of Bangladesh. A sort of big-brotherly attitude remains pronounced in such objectionable behaviour.

When the people of Bangladesh are in a state of shock and are trying to overcome it and bring the perpetrators of the crime to justice, the motivated propaganda can only worsen the wounds instead of helping heal those.

‘India bribes newsmen to write against neighbours’

By Special SAT Report
Aug 6, 2005, 13:23

Indian intelligence agencies are harassing Arun Rajnath (Left) , the Special Correspondent of South Asia Tribune in New Delhi after failing to persuade him to stop writing what these agencies describe as stories against the national security of India.

Rajnath, who has been reporting for the SAT for almost two years has also been refused accreditation by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs because MEA officials say he writes against their advice and against the national interest.

The harassment of Rajnath in New Delhi comes shortly after Pakistan Government had placed the South Asia Tribune Editor, Shaheen Sehbai, on the infamous Exit Control List which prohibits Pakistani citizens to leave the country. Sehbai is in Washington but if he enters Pakistan, he will not be allowed to leave the country.

Arun Rajnath reported the harassment he was facing to the Editor of his newspaper in Washington after intimidating telephone calls from intelligence operatives became so frequent they became a nuisance.

SAT Editor Shaheen Sehbai strongly condemned the harassment and in a statement said it was even more deplorable as India claimed to be a democratic country where the Press was supposed to be totally free.

Sehbai urged all the international media watchdog organizations to take immediate note of the harassment of Rajnath as well as denial of accreditation because it exposed the real situation in which no journalist could report objectively without facing the wrath of the Indian Establishment.

Arun Rajnath has been receiving crank calls and threatening E-mails by a person who calls himself Asif Nadeem. This person claims to be from a security agency. When Rajnath refused to concede his demands to propagate Government's views in the South Asia Tribune, he was threatened to face the consequences.

On the other hand, the Publicity Division of the Ministry of External Affairs has directed the Press Information Bureau not to issue a Press-accreditation to Arun Rajnath, as it was not in the national interest of India.

According to Rajnath, the person who identifies himself as Asif Nadeem first called him up on his home telephone number on the morning of June 21, 2005, and claimed to be speaking from the Media Cell of the Home Ministry. Nadeem said that he wanted to see Rajnath.

Arun invited him to a crowded Coffee Shop in Cannaught Place, the heart of Delhi. Asif Nadeem came wearing the dark blue shirt and off-white pants which he had said he would be wearing for identification.

Nadeem first tried to bribe Rajnath and offered to pay Rs10,000 per month for writing one story per month against Pakistan or Bangladesh or Nepal or Hurriyat Conference or Naxalites or any one else suggested by the security agencies.

Nadeem claimed that many top journalists covering External, Home and Defense Ministries were on the payroll of security agencies or the concerned ministries and they received handsome compensation packages which Arun could also get after proving his worth.

He also promised that he would help Rajnath in getting clearances for his press accreditation card and would get his name included in the list of journalists who always accompany the Prime Minister and Foreign Minister on their international tours.

Nadeem asked Arun not to write `damaging stories' on the Defense sector and Kashmir that `tarnish' the image of India at international forums. He had a complete list with him on Arun's defense stories that he claimed were `objectionable' and `anti-national' from the administration's point of view.

Asif had grievous objections particularly to the following three stories:

1. "India Sending Thousands of Commandos to Kashmir in Changed Strategy" published on November 18, 2004,

2. "Indian Army Faces Embarrassment After Fake Militants Surrender Scam", published on December 05, 2004, and 3. "The Blatant Kashmir Discrimination Against Militants' Widows", published on January 02, 2005.

He told Rajnath: "Though these stories may be true, when they are published in the international media, they cause ripples and tarnish the image of India. Such is the impact of the international media, particularly web newspapers. You should be cautious in your approach. We will pay you for your assistance. We can also pay you for not writing such stories if you do not agree to propagate our viewpoint. Why don't you write only political stories?"

Arun Rajnath firmly but politely declined all the offers and urged Nadeem not to contact him again as he was not interested in his proposals. Nadeem was quiet for a time but the situation took an ugly turn when the following two stories were published in the SAT:

1. "Tamil Tigers Training Nepalese Rebels: An Interview Revealing All", published on July 8, 2005, and

2. "Maoist Working Hard to Carve Out Their Own Country", published on July 24, 2005.

Nadeem started calling Rajnath desperately and repeatedly asked him to disclose the source of his story about the Maoists. He also threatened him to either work for the security agencies, like other journalists and pass on the information to the agencies, or be ready to face the consequences.

These phone calls were made from the numbers 9868303885, 9891367900 and 26687984. In one such conversation Nadeem said: "Mr. Arun you would have been arrested by now had the POTA not been abolished. But it does not mean that you are free to write anti-national stories in a Pakistani newspaper."

It is noteworthy that the Vajpayee government had imposed the infamous Prevention of Terrorism Act (POTA) in which there has been a provision that the journalists could be detained if they had any prior information of any act of terrorism or terrorist organizations. Journalists had to intimate the security agencies about their sources. But due to the pressure from the Left parties, the act has been abolished.

While the intelligence agencies are harassing Rajnath, his application for Press accreditation has been pending for months as the Foreign Ministry officials think Rajnath had exposed the Indian policy on Nepal for what it was worth.

The officials of the Foreign Ministry have declared him "dangerous for national security" and "he must not get the press accreditation as he would get access to all ministries including Defense, Foreign and Home, Prime Minister's Office and other sensitive departments."

The Police Verification conducted by the Press Information Bureau following Rajnath's application for a Press card has been clean and the file of accreditation has been sent to the Press Relations, Publicity Division, Ministry of External Affairs for its comments and recommendations because Arun Rajnath works for a foreign newspaper.

Despite fulfilling all conditions and a positive report from the local police, Arun's file was not put up before the Accreditation Committee in June, because the MEA had not returned the file by then. In February this year the Foreign Ministry had issued a special statement against Rajnath in a bid to discredit him and his reports. Click to View MEA Statement

After darting off many letters and reminders to the Principal Information Officer, Press Information Bureau (PIB), Arun received a letter from Anupma V. Chandra, Information Officer (Press Facility) dated July 18, 2005 (No. F. 1/7208-PRS) in which she admitted: "Your case is pending for want of comments/recommendations from Ministry of External Affairs on the status of South Asia Tribune, USA. Min. of External Affairs was requested for comments vide this Bureau's letter dated 14.3.2005 and a reminder dated 11.5.2005. Another reminder is also being sent."

The PIB sent the letter to Ishwar Prasad Teki, Publicity Officer, Press Relations, Ministry of External Affairs for comments. This department comes under direct control of the Joint Secretary, External Publicity Division, MEA. Navtej Sarna is the boss who happens to be the Joint Secretary and Official Spokesperson, as well.

As a matter of fact, the Publicity Division has directed Ishwar Prasad Teki not to clear the file. At present the MEA is not getting any concrete ground to reject the file, therefore the officials are holding it without taking any decision. They want to delay the process as the Accreditation Committee of the PIB meets only twice in the year to consider the cases of accreditation. It had already met in the month of June, and it would now meet in December.

According to the sources of the PIB and Foreign Ministry, the Publicity Division (MEA) and Home Ministry have already sounded the authorities of the PIB not to give accreditation to Arun Rajnath because "he works for a Pakistani newspaper, and his write-ups are irresponsible and not in the line of national interest."

"He could be dangerous to the national security if he gets accreditation as then he would be entitled to visit all ministries, government offices, sensitive places, Prime Minister's Office, President House, etc."

Rajnath's battle to receive fair treatment continues.

If India was able to conduct such bombing and un-noticed maybe we should have to worry because there is a definite flaw in the security system of our country, that means the intelligence, the army are not working.....maybe you should address those issues first rather than talk about nissans given to RAB or the police, so what. A country like Bangladesh spends heavily on their defense forces, but when the time comes I have yet to see their true skills.

I rlove my country, I hate the corruption that filters through the whole system, Army included

The problem is not with the army as it is not responsible for internal security. That is the main responsibility of the Police, DB, CBI, NSI and RAB intelligence. Perhaps this incident will straighten some of the unpatriotic, corrupt, sleazy people in the law enforcement agencies as this is a matter of the highest national security.

The enemy plans to destroy the country from within rather than use external military force because it knows that the armed forces are capable of defending against external threats so they are exploiting the volatile political situation in Bangladesh.

I must blame all Bangladeshi political parties for not uniting in the hour of need. This is pathetic and shows what a big mess our nations political arena is. Corruption is everywhere, people do not have any self respect left. This is unfortunate for people like you and me who are wishing for a better Bangladesh.

befor reading the articles that bdmilitary has shown above...i wud have thought that it was really JAMAAT ISLAM or nething lyk that...but now i strongly do belive that INDIA is against us...but then y did INDIA help us out against the PAKIS bak in the war?..thas what made me truss india b4...but not nemore...nd the problem with our political system is that everyone is greedy.....

most of the politicians only look out for themselves and do not care about any1 else...they just want to get all the fame and fortune they can wehile they are in power...after that they are nothing...if our politicians and ppl working in our GOVT wud care about the country a little bit more rather than always thinking about themselves......lyk politicians here in Canada...for gods sake...our mayor drives a FORD...not a BMW 7 SERIES....or local MP drives a CHEVY...which is not a ultra luxurious car...our PRIME MINISTER rides in a CADILLAC....only 2 CADILLACS....thas it...he dusnt waste ne money on nething else...thas y CANDA is on top...of most countries.....well..im sure that if politicians in bangladesh cared a lil bit more bout the desh...there wud be a better future in store for Bangladesh...

Do any of you here think India helped Bangladesh in the 1971 war out of kindness and goodwill? She "helped" us because she had a deep interest to divide Pakistan because a strong and united Pakistan would be very troublesom for India as it has to deal with Pakistan on both sides.

Anyway a lot of members of my family fought during the 1971 war and they all did not trust India because they were actually looting Bangladeshi treasures from homes and commercial areas and loading it onto big army trucks to take to India. They started curfews to make the job easier. The 2nd in charge of the Indian military unit in Bangladesh sobbed and admitted to this too saying his boss (Lt. Gen Aurora) looted things from Bangladesh.

What the Indians want is a very weak Bangladesh. They want Bangladesh to be like Nepal or Bhutan so that they can dictate the terms and so that we can always be at their mercy.

In our history as Muslims and Bangalis no one could ever hold us back for long because we can unite and fight the enemy back with success.

This is hightime for Bangladeshis, it's political parties, people of all religions and races in Bangladesh to unite and send a strong message to the attackers that we are not afraid and that we will get them and bring them to account for this act of barbarity.

Again, our politicians should watch what they are doing because the nation will be drawn into further chaos if they do not stop their lavish, corrupt lifestyles while other countrymen die of hunger and disease.

If I was the PM of Bangladesh I would only drive a normal car, and if possible a car that is made in Bangladesh. We cannot let others suffer while we enjoy life, it's a crime, and Bangladeshis should be aware of this fact.

Help your people, help the nation and always strive for the truth and right path them automatically the enemies will not dare mess with us.
