are you sure that the gear ratios of the Merc is shorter than the Porsche's?
I really like the way snkpkp put his words together, at the end of the day its a personal choice both cars are great. now for eg i like my x5 because it handles better than an ML, looks good (at least to me) and then you have the engine noise to die for, not to mention the throaty exhaust noise. There would be a time when I would opt for the Range over the X5 when my priorities change, like I would need a suv with decent power while giving me comfort over stiffer suspension and throaty exhaust and responsive engine feedbacks.
Arent we glad that we have a choice on such a variety of cars in the same price range that are all unique on their own way...Both the ML63 and the Turbo S are great, but it all boils down to which one stirs your soul when you get on it. Much like when a person has the money to buy either the Maybach or RR, SLR or the Carrera GT, Gallardo or the F430, Porsche Turbo or the Z06.

For ML63:
1st 4.377:1, 2nd 2.859:1, 3rd 1.921:1, 4th 1.368:1, 5th 1.000:1,
6th 0.820:1, 7th 0.728:1
For Cayenne Turbo S:
1st 4.15:1, 2nd 2.37:1, 3rd 1.56:1, 4th 1.16:1, 5th 0.86:1,
6th 0.69:1
The gear ratios are shorter in every gear but in real terms considering weight, drag coefficient, power etc. they might be quite close in performance.
