well there is a basic difference between the charecteristic about the two engines and it could relate to who is driving it... the 4AGE has always been well known for its ability to withstand extereme torture, due to its high revving character... where as the 3SGE although is more powerful draws its power differently... Bigger block, bigger pistons and cams... whereas the 4AGE draws its power by revving higher similar to honda engines... What i believe and have seen in many cases The key to setting up a good car is not always by boosting your horse power, More horse power will not necessarily get you a better car... its should suit the character of the car and its driver.
Every car has a character believe me it does which is very important that it is compatible with the drivers character aswell... Im not reffering to stock cars... but when a car is modded and worked on by a person its reflects the person aswell, that is why modded cars always differ from person to person.
People can setup a good car by trying to juice out every bit of power from his engine without increasing the horse power significantly... remember horse power on wheels and horse power developed by the engine differ dramatically.
Working on engine response is another way of developing a fantastic car... allow the car the rev happily by concentrating on its ability to burn more fuel and air which is specially more fun in a high revving engine.
And your have to remember that installing a bigger block 3SGE may not be too beneficial for a AE80. But then it also depends on the person developing the ride... whether he likes high revving cars or is he blindly going after horsepower... in that case the 1.8L 180/190HP 2ZZ-GE (came with certain corollas) would be a much better choice high revving(7800 redline) and has more horse power... if you can find this awesome engine ofcourse... i think they were developed for finland cars but im not so sure about this.

ecu's are commonly used on performance cars and of course no ones gonna use those $30 ebay shits lol...but hks and superchips have been proven on hundreds of cars....and lowering springs and larger tires directly affect ur reaction time and initial acceleration ur initial accel. from a red light or full brake goes down and reduces ur turning radius.........nitrousFiz wrote:my personal opinion about ECU is dat you should not go for it unless it is made for your ride and sum1 has used it for good results, because there are all kinds of ECUs on the net claiming all kinds of performance gain, but mostly they dont do any good most of the times.
if you are looking to improve handling, get lowering springs. Lower ur ride by an inch and u'll immediately feel the difference due to lower centre of gravity. you can also get strut suspensions if they are available for ur ride.
btw where are u getting the engine from and what are its specs? any links?
