Guys I will buy a new MP3 player for my car next month. I selected this:
http://www.strathfield.com/ViewProduct.asp?ProdID=1035
Could you please tell me what speakers and how many speakers I need for MP3 player. I have no idea about car audio so please help me out here.
That website (shop) also sells speakers, you can browse through the catalogue and tell me what would go with this MP3 player.
Thanks.

depending on the car you have, ieally what people go for are speakers on every door and one tweeter on the front doors.. Followed by two subs at the trunk preferably 2 nos of 12'', you have to have a crossover and a good amp to power it all. keep on amp for the subs and one for all the speakers in the car.
as for the brand, I have always stuck to Alpine's for the speakers and Subs, but you can get MTX's or JBL's for the subs.

bdmillitary my suggestion is go to da shop and listen 2 speakers b4 buying them.... coz all of them sound differrnt so get the ones u like...
I will suggest what I am going for my project car.... all kicker stuff....
Sub = 2 x Kicker L7 12" Subs 750W RMS - $185 each = $370
Amp = 1 x Hifonics BX1605D 1600W RMS @ 1 ohm - $200
Speaker = 2 x Kicker KS65.2 - $60 each = $120
Amp = 1 x Hifonics 100W x 4 channel amp - $150
Total spending budget.... $840.....
If you get a sound system get the best one. I hav learnt from experience.
Sony subs are not that good.... I had them b4....

I don't know if they have Polk here but they do have MTX, Pioneer, Sony and JL. Maybe Nafisuddin can tell me. But these must be super expensive right? But what is the life of these equipment, how long can I expect them to work?

I have 2 mtx subs and 2 mtx amps in my ride. got them 4 years ago. they are still working great. not a single problem. so i guess MTX is very reliable.
one of my friends had JL Audio subs and amps for 5 years. (he sold his car now, with the sound system)........and he never had any problem with his stuffs in those 5 years. He had Rockford Fosgate b4, and he said that JL is much more better than RF.
thats why I recommended MTX and JL Audio earlier. they are reliable and kicks real good bass. My subs are only 500W(peak) each......and 250 or 300 RMS....each. and i have had ppl getting really surprised abt the way my subbwoofers sound. they keep asking me....... "u sure u only got 1000W back in there"
u can get MTX.......they are not that expensive unless u get the top of the line subs and amps. when i bought my subs, they had 3 models available in market. 4000 series, 6000 series, and 8000 series. I got the mid-range one......6000 series, 12 inch subs. 8000 series were better and more expensive. but now they don't make the 6000 series anymore i think. I'm not sure what kind of subs MTX has now......since I'm not into Car Audios anymore like b4. my subs cost me $130 or $140 a piece i think. not really sure. don't remember exactly. and forgot my amps model# and the price as well. I gotta look up.
and for CD/MP3 player.......I recommend Alpine, Clarion or Pioneer. these are the best. Mine is a Pioneer.

this is my set up,
Sony Cdx- F5700 (216W), Sony Explode Speakers, Dual 12" Infinity 1230W (300W r.m.s Each) and Polk MOMO Carbon series C300.2
with $100 duralast Gold Battery.
Total Cost including wires and accesory = $800
These pack enough punch to set off car alarms..
and note* the 2 subs are only running at half power...
Bdmilitary one good point u raised is the longevity of the product, the ones i showed u earlier are major brand names and for the price u`ll be paying u dont need to worry bout upgrading ur system for atleast 3-4 years...
so its upto you what you want to do.
my goal is to crank up my subs to its max power,
600w r.ms( 2460W of only bass power), but the amp itself will cost me $500... and im still broke.

true about audiobahn, its amps, but rockford fosgate`s punch subs do pack punches in your trunk.

They last, dont worry about that, make sure that your boot is sealed and there is no moisture there. That ruins the systems. The subs are designed to pund, so dont be afraid to crank it up....I kept a seperate Sony crosspver near my armrest, so that I could adjust the frequencis, the amp comes with cross overs but then you have to have a quick access to the amp to get to them.
I advise that you should make a budget and if you cant get everything at once, you can go step by step.
