Do you trust ethanol & would you use it for your car?

Their has been a lot of debate in recent years about ethanol usage in cars. I remember that 4 years ago in Australia when ethanol was introduced to the market a lot of car engines were damaged because of the high content of ethanol in the fuel mix. Currently the Australian government has put a 10% cap on a ethanol + fuel mix for the commercial market.
Do you think that we should all use ethanol in an effort to take some pressure off the refineries and our wallet, or do you not trust ethanol because some say it could damage the car or be a worse polluter?

New Ethanol Discovery Could Halve Our Oil Needs
Biologist Lonnie Ingram has developed a means of creating ethanol from agricultural waste such as corn cobs and discarded leaves and stems that could make it much cheaper and more plentiful.
The catalyst is a genetically engineered form of E. Coli bacteria.
"With the cost of imported oil reaching record highs, we can use this new technology to produce ethanol for about $1.30 a gallon," Ingram says. "Ethanol will stretch the nation’s fuel supply and make gasoline burn more cleanly. Gasoline-ethanol blends also boost the octane rating of automotive fuel."
Ingram, who was invited to present a briefing about the technology to the staff and members of Congress in April, says his genetically engineered E. coli bacteria is capable of converting all sugar types found in plant cell walls into fuel ethanol. Ingram’s organism produces a high yield of ethanol from biomass such as sugarcane residues, rice hulls, forestry and wood wastes and other organic materials.
Until now, all of the world’s fuel ethanol has been produced from high-value materials such as cornstarch and cane syrup using yeast fermentations.
Ingram, who is director of the Florida Center for Renewable Chemicals and Fuels at the University of Florida, cited a recent report from the U.S. Department of Agriculture and DOE that indicates more than one billion tons of biomass can be produced on a sustainable basis each year. Converting this to fuel ethanol could replace half of all imported petroleum in the United States. It could also save non-oil producing states from economic collapse and bring down the price of oil.
