NEXT SWEDISH SUPERCAR

Post by Abdul »

Sweden's next supercar

eavily speed-restricted Sweden has spawned its second quirkily named supercar - the Bebi Querianella, due on sale in May 2007.

According to Clas Müller, one of the company's founders, the Querianella 'is based on the challenge of moving the supercar concept forward on a new and different path. Instead of just adding horsepower and as a consequence weight, we will reduce overall weight. Our target is at least half the weight of any (current) supercar.'

Already at the second prototype stage, the roadster-bodied Bebi at present tips the scales at 525-550kg thanks to the use of carbonfibre, magnesium and aluminium in its construction and the efforts of its makers to reduce the number of parts needed to build it. The car also uses a lightweight engine - the British-designed and developed RST-V8, produced

by Motopower (as featured in evo 072). This 2-litre engine weighs just 74kg and is about as compact as a Rover K-series, enabling it to be fitted in Caterhams and Elises. For the Bebi it's expected to develop 400-500bhp.

Müller tells us that production tooling for the Querianella has already been commissioned and that the first car should roll off the line this autumn, although deliveries proper won't start until spring next year. Price? Not decided, but bet on around £170,000
