The remains of Bangladeshi freedom fighter flight lieutenant Matiur Rahman will return home Saturday after 35 years from Pakistan where he sacrificed life for the country's liberation.

Bangladeshi Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia will receive the coffin carrying the remains of Matiur Rahman with highest state honor.

Flight Lt. Matiur Rahman died near Pakistan-India border while the fighter jet he was navigating crashed.

After several rounds of talks, Pakistan agreed to return the remains of Matiur Rahman early this year.

Delwar Hossain, an high official of the Ministry of Liberation War Affairs, said on Friday that an inter-ministerial meeting was held on Thursday, which discussed about preparation of receiving the remains.

Hossain also said a press conference will be held on late Friday to apprise the nation of return of the remains of Matiur Rahman on Saturday night.

A delegation of Liberation War Affairs ministry has gone to Pakistan on June 20 to take back the remains.

Seven freedom fighters were awarded the top most gallantry wards after the independence of the country and Matiur Rahman is one of them.

Bangladesh became independent from Pakistan in 1971 after nine months war of Liberation. About three million people and freedom fighters sacrificed their lives during the war.

Because he was a officer of Pakistan Air Force and he stole a jet to fly to Bangladesh but it crashed in Beluchistan.
