After 6 years and 639,000 units, the last Nissan Almera will roll off the production line at Nissan Motor Manufacturing (UK) Ltd (NMUK) in Sunderland today.

Launched in January 2000, Almera production created 800 new jobs at the Sunderland plant and NMUK became a three model plant. In the first year of production, more than 115,000 units were built and over its lifetime, the Almera has been exported to more than 45 countries around the world.

Vice President of Manufacturing at NMUK Trevor Mann commented: “Since its launch, the Almera has been very important in supporting Nissan’s sales targets right across Europe and further afield, most recently in Russia where it has proved extremely popular.

“However, Nissan is now pursuing a new product strategy in Europe by offering the customer more unique, individual models that aren't limited by the traditional market segments. Because of our competitiveness and the quality of our staff, NMUK was given the responsibility of producing the first examples of this new strategy in NOTE and QASHQAI.”

Nissan Almera GTi is actually a pretty popular car amongst tuners in the UK and rest of Europe. You can probably find some that have been seriously turbocharged!!! I would say it is comparable to the Nissan 200SX that was sold in the US.....
