Recondition car fair ends
with 500 car sold
Abdul Kader
The three-day recondition car exhibition held on the Bashundhara convention centre ground in the Dhaka city ended on Saturday with a good response from buyers.
Around 500 cars have been sold or booked at prices ranging from Tk 10 lakh to Tk 16 lakh. Organisers were upbeat with the sales, which, they said, were beyond their expectation.
Most of the sold and booked cars were Toyota X Corolla, Alluion and Premeo brands, including five Mazda RX-8 sports utility vehicles, said MA Hamid Sharif, general secretary of the Bangladesh Reconditioned Vehicles Importers and Dealers Association.
BRVIDA organised the exhibition on January 31 at the Bashundhara convention centre ground. A total of 45 stalls were set up at the fair with the participation of 21 car importers.
Apart from car stalls, representatives of five private banks, including Standard Chartered, HSBC, Dhaka Bank, Prime Bank and BRAC Bank, three CNG conversion workshops and two lubricated oil company and a car accessories selling company, took part in the exhibition with discount offers.
The CNG conversion workshops offered Tk 5000 to Tk 6000 cut from the conversion price for customers at the fair.
BRVIDA general secretary Hamid said, ‘From now on we will organise recondition car fair every year in Dhaka. Besides, we have a plan to have a similar fair in Chittagong also this year.’
‘With the response of buyers we are inspired,’ Hamid said, adding, ‘At least 15,000 visitors we have got in the three-day exhibition.’
The exhibition remained open to the visitors from 11:00am to 8:00pm with Tk 20 as entry fee.
The first-ever reconditioned car fair aims at drawing the attention of the prospective buyers and highlighting usefulness of the reconditioned cars, he said.
He said a reconditioned car even last longer than a newer brand car.
At present, the importers, under the existing government rules, can import up to four-year-old second-hand cars with engine capacities of up to 1,649 cubic centimetres.
However, the importers demanded an increase in the age limit of the imported second-hand cars. They said it should be six years instead of four years.
The business of reconditioned vehicles started in 1977 and the association is a forum of around 500 reconditioned car importers, Hamid said.

I was there for 5 mins.... didn't took any camera, so no pics from me. It was like all the showroom together with sales girls. 500 cars sold is just a hoax. I have confirmed that 50 cars have been sold. which is a big news it self... 50 cars in 3 days!!!
