Foundation laying ceremony of Bibir Bazar land port today

The foundation laying ceremony of the long-cherished Bibir Bazar land port will be held today (Sunday) with a hope to increase revenue income by boosting exports and imports through the port, reports BSS.
Shipping Minister Lt. Col. (Retd) Akbar Hossain will lay the foundation stone of the land port at Bibir Bazar, only five kilometre from the district town, Director of Land Port Authority Irtiza Ahmed Chowdhury told the news agency.
The land port will be built on 10 acres of land at a cost of around Taka 10 crore. Shepherd Comilla Land Port Limited Company will implement the two-year long project, concerned sources said.
Nirmal Kanti Paul, a C and F businessman said that the government would be able to earn additional several crores of Taka as revenue after construction of the port at Bibir Bazar.
Besides, one custom officer of Bibir Bazar check post said that products worth Taka 1.70 crore were exported through the check post in 2004-’05 fiscal and the country earned Taka 33 lakh as revenue.
Bangladesh exports plastic goods, cement and plastic chairs and imports mainly ginger and orange through the check post.
