its true that there are many other countries where fuel prices are much higher than BD.........specially the European countires. but we are forgetting that the average income in those countires are 50-100 times more than that of BD........so, even if the fuel price is 100 TK per liter more in those countires, it's not that hard to afford, for the ppl in those countries since their income is much more than BD ppl.
I'm not saying that it's gonna be hard for everyone in BD to afford the fuel in such high price, but I'm talking abt the middle class ppl. Ppl in BD who buys Bimmers and Benzs can easily afford fuel even if it's TK 200 per liter.....but the high fuel price is definitely gonna affect the middle class ppl and the low class ppl. High fuel price means the Cab and bus fare will go up as well. So, those who don't have cars, and rides in Cabs and Buses, they'll be paying more fare due to high fuel prices. .. moreover, we import a lot of food and other stuffs from India and other places using trucks. So if the fuel price is high, importers will be paying more money for the transportations of the imported goods, which means a lot of things will become more expensive now than b4. but the income of middle class ppl and low class ppl aren't increasing.......so they'll be suffering a lot.
So considering all that......the gas price is really high for a poor country like BD.

Lets look at it this way, Bangladesh imports oil and with global crude getting expensive everyday its going to get reflected on the price of the petrol and other oil derivatives. Keeping high taxes on oil slows down the usage of it, because at the end of the day Bangladesh is spending a lot of foreign currency on the oil and getting the returns back in their own currency. These are my thoughts and I have not made an assessment on its accuracy.saif009 wrote:a car dealer said to me that government should reduce tax on oil. bangladesh has low price for gas. but, goverment is loosing lots of money by doing that. also, as goverment buying gas with high price, these gas also smuggled to india, by river and by border.
In united states lower middle class peopel are also struggling with this high gas price. I am talking about everyday working class people. there are at least 38% in united states who live below proverty line and it is a ver struggle for them to afford this gas price. recent survey shows that at least 27% working class people now using city busses to get to their destinations. even i think sometimes, that i should sell my Lexus and buy a tri-cycle. so even though our earnings are higher then lot of other courtries, but there are still thoese people who really can't afford gas these days are still living here.
