alright. these are some clips i made with my Digital camera, while driving around in streets of Florida in my 96 Honda Accord.

***Important***the clips are hosted by Angelfire.....and it doesn't allow direct linking. so clicking on the link won't work. just copy them and paste in ur url box.

Cruising at 80 mph I was accelerating from 50 mph....went to abt 75 and slowed down a lil for some reason(u can tell by looking at the RPM) then again accelerated to around 82-83 mph. thank god i didn't go more than that and slowed down. just abt a minute later i saw a cop on the other side of the road. the speed limit was 45 mph. btw, see the rpm jumping from 2 to 5 at the beginning.....this is the real fun abt VTEC engines.

0-60 mph acceleration took me abt 10 secs. if i do the shifting in manual style then it takes abt 9.5 secs(couldn't do the shifting manually as both of my hands were busy holding the steering and the camera)....got 93k+ miles on it. used to do in 9 secs b4, when the mileage was around 70k. my car getting slower. :(

don't know abt manual transmission but in auto transmission, u can tell the vtec is running by the sudden jump of the rpm......like the one in my video.....it jumped from 2k rpm to 5k rpm when i hit the pedal hard. so with a auto trans(4 speed), if u r driving at a certain speed.. say like 30 mph....ur grear will prolly be in the 3rd or may be 4th and rpm will be around 2000......when u hit the pedal hard, it will downshift the gear to 1st and the rpm will jump to 5000 to get ur car accelerated faster......if that happens, then ur vtec is running, if it does not do that(that is, the gear stays at 3rd and the rpm movies up slowly from 2k and the acceleration is slow) then the vtec is prolly not running.

there are prolly many other ways to test ur vtec ....but i don't know them. the one i described is prolly the easiest way to test the vtec.

so urs a manual. i see...... i don't know how to test the vtec then. ask other DTD members, they might be able to help u. but, i think if ur rpm jumps quicker than other non-Vtec Hondas....then ur Vtec is prolly running fine.
